Technology can be one part of a wound-care plan. The right choice starts with the patient, the wound, and the care already in place.
Ask about suitability and availability.
These are educational descriptions of treatment categories. Ask the practice which options are available and appropriate for your situation.
01 · Prescribed wound-vac systems
Negative pressure wound therapy
A wound-vac system applies controlled suction through a dressing. Some systems are designed for use at home or in extended-care settings under a prescribed plan.
Safe use depends on the wound, device instructions, dressing-change support, supplies, monitoring, and the patient’s or caregiver’s ability to follow instructions.
The clinical team must confirm whether this is appropriate and how device support and follow-up will be arranged.
02 · Device-based treatment
Non-contact ultrasound
Some wound-care devices deliver low-energy ultrasound through a fluid mist for wound cleansing and maintenance debridement. Suitability depends on the specific device and the treatment plan.
Mobile use requires the appropriate equipment, trained clinicians, supplies, and an appropriate setting.
Ask about current availability. The practice must confirm the equipment, care setting, and support needed before this treatment can be arranged.
03 · Selected wound applications
Skin substitutes & tissue-based products
These products are sometimes discussed for selected wounds as part of an individualized plan. Products differ, and they should not be presented as interchangeable or as a guaranteed route to healing.
Clinical indication, evidence, product requirements, prior care, handling, and insurance coverage need separate review.
Discuss availability and suitability. Skin substitutes, including some amniotic products, are distinct from a surgical skin graft using a patient’s own skin. This site does not advertise graft surgery at home.
Useful questions to ask
Why this option? What problem is it intended to address, and what alternatives should be considered?
Can it be managed safely here? What equipment, dressing changes, monitoring, and backup support are needed?
What is actually available?Who provides the treatment, where does it take place, and how will coverage and costs be clarified?
